03/24 Susan Taylor Humanitarian Award
Susan Taylor gave years of her life as our Treasurer, tabulator, confidante, friend, critic, and cheer leader, Her knowledge, forethought, and guidance were instrumental in our circuit’s formative years. She worked to establish financial guidelines and procedures that were key to our growth and stability. Her knowledge of computer systems and programming made her the problem solver. Everyone was more at ease when Susan was at a show. With all of that said, her skills did not even come close to her best attribute – her love of all of the performers in every guard. She had a smile and a kind word for everyone. It was truly a joy to watch her enjoy every performance, with a smile, applause, and on occasion tears. She was a gracious woman of incredible integrity and generosity. She was like a mom to all of us, a firm and gentle hand pushing us to success. Sadly, we lost Susan earlier this year but her influence will be with us forever. This circuit is so incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful memories of this amazing human. To honor Susan’s memory, we give this award to people who go well beyond the simple description of volunteer.

03/10 FFCC Announces Partnership With Hilton Hotel In Daytona
The FFCC has entered a partnership with the Hilton Hotel Ocean Front in Daytona Beach for FFCC Championships.
Located on Daytona'a only traffic free beach in the heart of Ocean Front Village directly across from the Ocean Center Convention Center, location of the 2012 FFCC Championships, this hotel is the perfect location for your FFCC Championship experience. There are five restaurants in the hotel and it is within walking distance to all events at the Ocean Center, not to mention the fantastic ocean views.
This hotel with 744 renovated guest rooms, cabanas and suites has created special pricing and incentives for our event. The rate is $119.00 per night up to quad occupancy. As an added incentive, the FFCC is having a drawing for a free room night when FFCC teams book rooms at the Hilton. For every room booked the team will receive an entry into our drawing for one free room night. Drawing to be held March 17 at the Freedom High School Contest. Teams who book at the Hilton will also receive one additional single-day spectator pass for the FFCC Championships (one per team, not one per room - for the day of their scheduled performance). You do not have to have a team representative present at the drawing.
Make your reservations early the FFCC has only blocked a limited number of rooms and when those are booked the price will increase. Contact Reservation desk, 386-254-8200 to make your reservations today!

As part of our ongoing commitment to education, the FFCC is pleased to announce that we will be sponsoring a clinic by Tim Fairbanks before our Percussion Premier event on January 28th. The clinic, entitled 'The Design Process: from Conception to Execution,' will be an interactive process in which Tim and the attendees will program an indoor percussion show from start to finish. The clinic will cover all of the design elements and processes needed to plan a successful program including: concept, music selection, storyboarding, costuming, floor design, and musical and visual compositional choices. The clinic will conclude with a short Q&A session where attendees will get a chance to gain insight from one of the brightest and innovative minds in the indoor percussion activity.
The clinic will be held at Apopka High School from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to all staff members of FFCC units (the clinic is not open to performing members). Don't miss this chance to improve your design process and take your ensemble's program to the next level!
Tim will also be joining us for our Percussion Premier and will be providing designer overview commentary for all of our performing units. Tim will be recording realtime reaction to your program during your performance and will be a part of the critique process where the staffs will be able to participate in a dialog with him in an effort to maximize the impact and success of their shows.
This is a reminder to all units that have not submitted their rosters.
There have been some minor changes to the FFCC roster requirements that were approved at the last annual membership meeting.
All Scholastic units are required to submit either the WGI Scholastic Eligibility Certification form or a roster signed by the principal of the sponsoring school. If there is any student that is not attending the sponsoring school, then the school they attend must be listed on the roster.
All Independent units are required to submit a roster signed by the director of the unit. If the performer is attending a high, middle or elementary school, then the school must be listed on the roster.
A WGI Scholastic Eligibility Certification form or roster must be on file with the FFCC prior to the first contest or the unit will be subject to a one (1) point penalty. This penalty will increase by one (1) point for each subsequent contest.
These forms can be uploaded to the the FFCC website, emailed, faxed or mailed. The contact information is listed on the FFCC website under "Contacts. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

In keeping with the ongoing educational goals of the FFCC Field Day Premiere:
All units in the AA, A, Open, and World Classes will receive their scores confidentially so that they can determine the best way to apply that information to their own philosophies and educational goals. No scores or placements will be announced to the general public. Recaps of the event will only be available to the working Chief Judge for classification purposes. If you have more questions please contact your class representative.
12/29 Premier Education Event
The FFCC is pleased to announce the format for the 2012 Premiere. Due to an overwhelming positive response, the FFCC has decided to continue the format from last year, while expanding it to include more information from more national level clinicians, to more classes. This year the units who perform in the Middle School, B, and AAA classes will have the opportunity to enjoy an educational event that includes the performers and the instructors. Those units will participate in a guided warm-up focusing on how performers can best prepare for their performance and competition. The units will then move within their flights of 4 guards each to the performance floor where they will get a chance to showcase 2 and half minutes of their show, while the staff get to receive live and real time information regarding the production. While the staff receive information so will the performers. Immediately following the show, the performers will get to . . .
Critique sign up for the 2012 season is now underway. Units should send a list of the shows they wish to attend critique to Tom Slaughter at [email protected] Units should list their selections in order of preference. Everything will be done to give each unit every critique they request during the season. The Chief Judge will contact you if for any reason a critique request you sent in cannot be granted.
Critique selections are due in the Chief Judge's mailbox by 11:59pm on Wednesday, January 11th. As each critique selection is received, a quick reply message will be sent to the sender, verifying the selections have been received. If you do not receive your reply message within 24 hours after sending in your requests, please contact Tom directly to verify your selections have been received.
If for any reason during the season you need to change your critique selections (wish to add...or drop out, etc.) notify the Chief Judge immediately so attempts can be made to modify the critique schedule to reflect this change.
Special Note: Color Guard units in Cadet, Class B, and AAA do not need to sign up for critique at their Premiere event. Critiques with judges and clinicians will be built into the rotation for all these Field Day participants. Color Guards in AA, A, Open, and World, and all Percussion units should submit requests for critique at Premiere in the same manner as they do for all other shows.

12/01 Percussion Registrations
2012 FFCC Percussion Unit Directors:
It is very important that all units complete the registration process and register for the shows they wish to attend as soon as possible. We will be setting the final percussion schedule within the next week and units who are not registered for shows assume the risk of not being able to attend the shows they wish because the show has reached the 60 unit maximum or the show is not a part of the final schedule because not enough percussion groups registered for the show before the schedule was set.
11/21 Dues Reminder
REMINDER: Membership Dues increase on December 1st to $500. You can find out more about registering for the FFCC 2012 season and dues responsibilities by clicking here.
11/20 Independent Percussion and Guard Auditions

If your unit is having a clinic or audition please email [email protected] to be added to the list.
11/13 Percussion Contests

Percussion units can now register for the following contests:

February 18 - Plant City HS
March 03 - Seminole HS
March 03 - Percussion Focus East (Site TBD)
March 10 - Fleming Island HS
March 10 - Percussion Focus West (Site TBD)
March 17 - Osceola HS (Pineallas County)
All shows contingent on an adequate level of enrollment to protect the financial investment of our show hosts. Percussion units that wish to assist with the viability of any show on this list should register with the FFCC, pay dues, and make their show selections by November 30th. A final and confirmed show schedule will be announced in mid-December.
11/13 Changes in Insurance Requirements
All Independent units must provide written proof of liability insurance with the following coverage before they will be allowed to appear in an FFCC contest: $1,000,000 General Liability and $10,000 Accident Medical Payments. Please email this information to the FFCC Secretary at [email protected] or upload a copy using the FFCC website.
Scholastic units that are either a Florida public or charter school and sponsored by that school, are not required to provide proof of liability since Florida State statute requires these organizations or their school district to maintain liability insurance. Private schools, even if they compete in a Scholastic division, must meet the insurance requirements of an Independent unit.
Scholastic units from outside of Florida must provide written proof of liability insurance prior to appearing in a FFCC contest. Please email this information to the FFCC Secretary at [email protected].
The insurance status for qualified scholastic will be updated this week on the FFCC website to show "Received and Verified". If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

As the 2012 Winter Guard season approaches, it is with great thought and consideration that Fahrenheit Winter Guard will become inactive.
Fahrenheit debuted in 2003 as an A guard, and throughout our 9 year history moved up through the ranks of Open and World Classes. Their unique approach and crowd appeal proved their talents and produced WGI Finalists in each class. They also won a bronze medal in both A and Open classes from WGI.
We would like to thank all the cast members, instructors, volunteers, and our fans throughout our existence. The phenomenal support we received in our 9 year history has made Fahrenheit's dream in 2003 a reality.

06/04 Our sympathies go out to Joanne Dodge
Past board president, Joanne Dodge, suffered a tremendous loss with the unexpected passing of her husband,Steve, this week. Joanne has been active in the FFCC for more than 2 decades including several years as the president of the board. Although she recently moved to Tupelo, MS to be with her husband of 40 years, she remains active and consults with several FFCC colorguards in addition to others in the SE. Joanne was the founder and chief staff of the Sacred Heart program for numerous years until her relocation to Florida in the late 80's. Under her direction, Sacred Heart medaled in Ind. A class upon their first visit to WGI. Steven Dodge is also mourned by his children: Timothy, Ryan, and Amy. Amy was a 4 year member of the Satellite Scorpionettes and former member of Sacred Heart Cadets of Roslindale, Mass. and the St. Ann's World Guard of Neponsett, Mass.
Joanne's address is 1797 Elvis Presley Drive, Tupelo, MS. 38804. Your thoughts and prayers are welcomed in this difficult time.

Tragically, the FFCC has lost another treasure today. It is with a very heavy heart that I write to tell you of the passing of a dear friend, and an incredible asset to every color guard in our community. Susan Holbrook Taylor passed away May 27, 2011. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this incredibly caring woman who gave years of her life as our Treasurer, tabulator, confidante, friend, critic, and cheer leader. Her knowledge, forethought, and guidance were instrumental in our circuit's formative years. She worked to establish financial guidelines and procedures that were key to our growth and stability. Her knowledge of computer systems and programing made her the problem solver. Everyone was more at ease when Susan was at a show. WIth all of that said, her skills did not even come close to her best attribute - her love of all of the performers in every guard. She had a smile and a kind word for everyone. It was truly a joy to watch her enjoy every performance, with a smile, applause, and on occasion tears. She was a gracious woman of incredible integrity and generosity. She was like a mom to all of us, a firm and gentle hand pushing us to success. I count myself and this circuit so incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful memories of this amazing human. Thank you Jim and Roland for sharing her with us for all of these years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jim and Roland and the rest of the Taylor family.

Upon completion of performance, units will exit in the front left corner out to the parking lots for floor folding. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
This link will pull up the corrected Entry/Exit Map
How would you like to see your face on the FFCC website?
How does my percussion or guard get a picture in the yearbook?
How can I help make this happen?
Please click here to upload your photos here for consideration to be used on the FFCC web site and in the annual yearbook. We greatly appreciate any photos that you have to share.

FFCC units are welcome to submit their critique selections for the upcoming season to the Chief Judge at this time. Your selections can be emailed to Tom Slaughter at [email protected] . Make sure to prioritize your choices (first choice, second choice, etc.). A difference from last year is that units are welcome to submit as many critique selections as they wish. However, all critique choices are subject to the time constraints of the contest day. Your choices should be sent in by Sunday, January 23rd. Critique schedules will be posted on the website on the Monday before each contest.
01/01 January 15th - Premier I Day
Each unit will be grouped into “flights.” These flights will have 6 units each in them, that will equate to approximately 1 hour total performance and clinic time for every 6 units. Your warm-up time will consist of an “open gym” environment, with clinicians offering feedback to instructors to address equipment and movement technique issues. After warm-up, all 6 units will watch the other performances in the gym. Immediately following their performances all of the performers will join the clinicians on the floor where they will address particular performance issues with each group. During this time the instructors will join clinicians in the stands to talk about design and performance aspects of the programs. Once they have finished their time slots the performers will join the audience, while the instructors/directors move on to a follow up session with Mark Wells, the FFCC Education Coordinator. He will discuss the critique process, any questions on the scoring criteria, and you will receive immediate feedback from them on the field day format. Once they have finished their sessions everyone will be encouraged to watch the rest of the days events.
For your Winterguard or Percussion unit to join the FFCC for the 2011 season. Please click here to find registration information. We look forward to seeing all of you in January!

The Certificate of Liability Insurance needs to be uploaded to your unit's profile, emailed or mailed to the FFCC by December 15, 2010. A $1,000,000 general liability coverage per school or organization and a minimum $10,000 accidental medical payments coverage must be provided.

WGI has clarified the rules pertaining to color guards and percussion units that will be comprised of students from more than one school. The primary requirements are:
Any combined color guard or percussion unit must compete under the name of a single school. For example if the schools combined are Central and North High Schools, they must compete as either Central or North High School.
The principals of all schools that have students in the combined color guard or percussion unit must sign the roster. This roster must be sent to the FFCC Secretary by December 15, 2010.
A copy of the school district policy that allows sharing of resources must be provided to the FFCC Secretary by December 15, 2010.
If these requirements cannot be met, the color guard or percussion unit must compete as an independent group. The complete explanation from WGI is posted in the Resources section under "WGI Scholastic Rule for Combined School Units".
09/05 Consult the Experts
On Saturday, September 18, 2010 at The Crowne Plaza Orlando Airport, 5555 Hazeltine National Dr., Orlando, FL 32812, FFCC will give guard and percussion units a free opportunity to spend time with a panel of experienced judges and instructors. The panel will consist of Michael Gray, Jill Brennan, Micheal James, Shawn Mckaig, Matt Verberg, and Ralph Stewart.
This educational opportunity will allow you and your teaching staff time to question the experts - to help evaluate any ideas you have put together for music, movement, equipment and general effect for your winter project. Your one-on-one session with this panel of experts will help lead you to solid choices for a successful winter season.

03/14 FFCC Championships Critique
This year, at Circuit Championships, a short critique session will be offered to our guard and percussion units who are continuing their seasons by traveling to WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.
If your unit is attending World Championships, and you would like to participate in this critique, please email the Chief Judge at [email protected]. Requests to attend this critique must be received by Sunday, March 21st at 6:00pm for you to participate. A few notes on this critique:
**It will occur as quickly after the contest ends as is possible.
**You will not have a recap in your hands for this critique. Championships scores cannot be released under any circumstance until they are announced in retreat.
**You will likely not have a chance to listen to commentary before this critique either. Have your questions, concerns, and thoughts you want to discuss ready to go for the judge so you can take advantage of this opportunity.
Good Luck to all of your units attending FFCC Championships!
FFCC Championships DVD pre-sale discounts can save you nearly 40% off contest day prices! For the cost of 3 DVD's on show day, you could have the complete all day contest in a keepsake album of 10-12 disks if you order this week! Check the discounts out at the FFCC DVD page:
Directors, please use this form to register the names for your seniors and age-outs. Please do so by March 4 so we may accurately procure sufficient medals for championships!
It's that time of year again, we need your unit photos! There are always units that feel left out because their unit didn't get a photo in the yearbook. The only way we can include photos, is if we have a quality photo to use.
Please do not submit more than 3 photos of your group. It would be great to have a group and action shot when possible. High resolution photos are required for printing. If very small photos are submitted, they cannot be used.

If you missed the sign up period, there is still room in many FFCC shows for you to have a critique session with the judges. The shows that have full critique schedules and may not be selected are the Premiere at Hagerty HS, the Premiere at Winter Springs HS, and the color guard critiques at the University and Freedom HS contests. Color Guard contests other then those events can still be selected. ALL percussion critiques remain open for late sign up.
To sign up late, email Tom Slaughter at [email protected] . Late sign up will completely and unequivocally end on Sunday, January 31st at midnight. There will be no further extensions past that date.
The January 23rd Colorguard Premier contest for Cadet, B and Scholastic AAA Class guards has been closed and the schedule locked. Any unit still wishing to register for the 2010 FFCC season should contact FFCC Contest Coordinator Jim Taylor at [email protected]

Critique schedules for each show will be posted one week before the event on the FFCC site. Critiques WILL begin during the awards retreat of each show, so please take that into account as you decide which events you want to attend. A failure to show up for a critique without notification does make your surety bond subject to forfeiture, so choose carefully.

Tim Bell; so vibrant and energetic and such a vital part of our success as an organization and the success of our members with his thoughtful and insightful commentary passed away last night. He had a great manner of telling you what you did not want to hear in a light hearted way that left you with dignity and laughter. It is a sad occassion and we will all mourn his passing knowing that we are better people and color guards for having known him. Rest in peace my good friend Tim. I know all of your prayers and good thoughts would be appreciated by his family.

01/15 URGENT: Units Missing Information
The following units are missing the listed required items that are necessary to perform this weekend at Premier. Absolutely no one will perform without proof of liability insurance. These items (proof of liability insurance and rosters) were due on December 15, 2008. If you believe you have sent these items, please re-fax them to 877-905-0358 or email to [email protected]. We have had many incidents this year of items being faxed and/or mailed to wrong numbers/addresses. I have also received hundreds of faxes, and I apologize if something was overlooked.
All fees must be paid at guard check in on Saturday or you will not be allowed to perform. Please remember that if you are missing a roster, it MUST be signed by the PRINCIPAL as well as the unit director, and it should list all students and their school of attendance. This is especially important if you have students from a feeder school marching with your program. Please contact your class representative (Trevor Cox for AAA and Chris Palau for B/Cadet) for help or more information.
01/15 Video at Premiere
This a reminder to everyone that both of the FFCC premiere events will be professionally video taped and produced on DVD which can be purchased here: http://www.alliancemedia1.com/
Each unit will also have ONE (1) video pass to record their unit only. NO OTHER VIDEO RECORDING will be allowed at either of these events.
01/13 In Memorium
It is with deep regret that we announce the death of John J. Kenney Jr., husband of Karen Kenney one of our dearest FFCC family members. Please keep Karen and her family in your prayers. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Life Link Foundation in John's memory.

Alliance Media wants to encourage you to order your Premier DVD with complete confidence, so we will be offering you GUARANTEED 3 day (postmarked) delivery or it's FREE if you pre-order at our website, you will save $$. Get a PROFESSIONAL memory of the start of the 2009 season and enjoy the performances of your class of competition.
The critique schedule for the January 17th Premiere Show at University High School has been released. You can view the schedule in the Adjudication Details section of the event page for this show. A few reminders about critique.
1. Judges will be set up in 3 stations (Downstairs, EA, and GE). You will have 3 minutes at each station, then 1 minute of time to wrap up and transition to the next station.
2. It is to your benefit to listen to the judges commentary on your CDs before entering critique. Your time is short, and if you can get past the judge "rehashing" what was already said in their commentary, you can have a more in depth conversation.
3. Your time is set in stone and cannot be changed unless a conflict is extreme. Do not arrive late and still expect to enter the critique room. A failure to show up for an assigned critique time without notifying the Chief Judge or Contest Director for the day, does make you subject to forfeiture of your surety bond.
4. It is understood that most directors will have to leave the awards ceremony to attend critique. Please make arrangements for your students to be supervised so you can go.
Any questions on critique can be directed to Tom Slaughter at [email protected]
